East-West Gateway Council of Governments, the local metropolitan planning organization, will host the final public informational open house allowing members of the community
another chance to hear the latest information on the South Grand Great Streets project. The public informational open house will take place on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Center for Divine Love, 3617 Wyoming, St. Louis, MO 63116. East West Gateway Council of Governments, and the consultant team will discuss the Pilot Project, the Proposed Master Plan and the Phase 1 Construction Plan. The team will also review the outcomes from the first and second series of Public Meetings held August 10 -12, 2009 and September 10, 2009. The outcomes will include the results from the polling sessions and the on-line survey.
The final open house meeting to be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 will be conducted in two hour increments beginning with a mid-day session from 11:00am to 1:00pm and an evening session from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Each two hour session will begin promptly with a short presentation followed by a polling session allowing participants a final opportunity to review and to give their feedback on the Pilot Project that currently consists of a 3-lane concept from Arsenal to McDonald and on the Proposed Master Plan. In addition, the public will be polled on material solutions and construction phasing for the project. Lastly, informational stations, presented during the first and second series of open houses will be present for participants to visit and review. The polling process will take place via a keypad polling system allowing the audience’s responses to be instantly tabulated during the meeting. This system will provide real-time feedback and will allow the participants to see how their opinions compare to others in the audience.
The goals of the South Grand Great Streets project are to improve pedestrian safety while maintaining traffic flow; enhance the appearance and functionality of the corridor through lighting, signage, and landscaping; and provide opportunities for continued economic development. Approximately $2.7 million for design and construction have been secured through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) by East- West Gateway Council of Governments. All comments received will be reviewed and considered as the design team proceeds with the construction document and finalizes the master plan.
